About My work.

My paintings are personal and intuitive. They are internal, drawn from experiences and emotions. They are rarely preplanned but evolve as paint is applied, removed, then reapplied. Most works are intended to be abstract but at times reality enters the work uninvited. Curve battles angle, vivid colour seeks to dominate or be subdued by tone or form. There is a constant battle against the intrusion of reality, not always won. The works are meant to be deciphered by each individual, not the artist. We must each take what we find in the work, the experience should be individual not collective.

Knowing when to stop is almost as important as starting. But not quite.

Though a New Zealand artist, the works are not necessarily New Zealand in Character. They could have been done in London, Cairo or New York. In fact some were done in New York. What occurs springs from internal feelings, desires and fantascies. The journey is not always pleasant or pleasing, but its an honest trip undertaken by the artist.
